Justin Barcia – No Longer At MTF

MXPTV has learned recently that Geico Powersports/Honda rider Justin Barcia was asked to leave the Millsaps Training Facility, which has been his home place to ride and train for the past 5 years ever since Justin was on a KTM 85s.  Justin was welcomed to MTF with open arms when he was a young, quick amateur making ground and brewing his quick speed and style. But due to a recent podium interview after his 2nd moto at Spring Creek last weekend, Justin has been asked to leave the facility and no longer ride/train there again.  Justin mentioned Gary Bailey on podium, who also has worked with Justin in the past, and thought nothing of it while saying that on the podium to just thank a past trainer/mentor for his success.  Justin was asked the next day when he came to the facility to clean out his locker and get out.  Many fans and people in the industry know that Justin has thanked MTF many, many times for his success.  But according to Justin’s mother, Lorraine, the move was surprising.

Over the phone, Lorraine mentioned that the move was surprising but they are taking it very easily as they see this is a refresher for Justin and a different direction than they had been taking the past 5 years.  ”Justin is fine about all of this.  We are riding at GPF at times and also at the local tracks around here so he can keep riding.”, stated Lorraine.  ”We’ll have to pay the $30-$35 to ride but at least he’s riding.”  Could there have been some jealousy and backdoor action happening recently behind Justin riding and training at the facility?  We may never know.

If the Barcia’s can’t find a stable place to train and ride in time for supercross season, Lorraine mentioned that they will have to live in California and ride at Honda’s test track and maybe some others in the area to get Justin ready for the indoors.  But overall, the Barcia’s are still riding and training….just not at their usual spot.

SPODE CORRAL: The RMX Is Back!

While at the Hurricane Hills/4th Of July Spectacular last weekend, MXPTV cameras caught a rare sighting of the newly-borderline-vintage Suzuki RMX250.  The legendary RMX made its way on the track like a stealth under radar as it quietly rolled over its steep climbs up each artifically-produced land mass.  The RMX had the luxury of not riding through rocks and trees (as it was intended for that machine) but this rider made sure his RMX’s barkbusters were treated with a breath of fresh air and even protected his light source from the dangerous ultraviolet rays of the sun.  The extravagant pipe guard gives the RMX its glorious shine blinding its competitors.  (All Hondas started looking pink as they went by the RMX!)  But the other riders got their share of blindness as well, thanks to the signature neon pink RMX lettering on the shrouds and swingarm that would briefly paralyze one’s view of this jaw-dropping machine .  A true classic and a great addition to the MXPTV Spode Corral.

Check back next Friday to see what MXPTV can round up for the MXPTV Spode Corral!

The Spring Classic is Heading to Sweet Home Alabama

RPM Sports, the McWilliams family and WB Ranch announced today that the 2011 Spring Classic will be held at the picturesque MillCreek Mx Park, located in Pell City, Alabama.  The Spring Classic has long been the flagship event for the start of the amateur national motocross calendar, where aspiring racers from all corners of the country gather in effort to stake their place amongst future stars of tomorrow. The Spring Classic also acts as the annual platform for the industry to showcase all of their new products and while scouting amongst a diverse talent pool of riders that define what is to be expected throughout the remainder of the year.

MillCreek Mx Park has a decade of successful history hosting and managing exciting events, including Loretta Lynn Area Qualifiers, Regional’s, ATVA Nationals, Pro Am events and many other recognized motocross events.  Allen McWilliams said, “We feel very fortunate to have acquired the rights to this important racing event. The fact that we have managed the event for the last two years at the Lake Whitney track has allowed for a smooth transition. The move to MillCreek Mx Park will provide riders and their families with superior amenities and the added convenience of being close to outside activities, airports, hotels, shopping malls and restaurants.  My family and I are very excited about the re-location of the Spring Classic and the upcoming improvements at MillCreek in preparation for this very prestigious event.”

The move of this event to MillCreek Mx Park brings to an end a long history of motocross racing at Lake Whitney, dating back to 1972.  The move also brings new life to the amateur national calendar and this is being considered a very positive venture as our sport continues to grow towards more professional platforms that will better prepare our athletes in their transition into professional careers.

Bruce Whitehead, the owner of WB Ranch, indicated, “It is with some sadness that we make this announcement. We know that the Whitney track holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of motocross enthusiasts.  However, the ranch has been going in a different direction for several years and motocross is simply not complimentary with other activities at the ranch.  We have an excellent relationship with the McWilliams family, and we know that under their stewardship the legacy of this major event can be continued and enhanced.”

In short, in time comes change and that is where are today. Our goal from day one at RPM has been to preserve the history and enhance the future of the Spring Classic and welcome you all in sharing with our vision.

Make your plans now to attend the opening of the 2011 amateur motocross calendar at MillCreek MX Park on March 7-14, 2011 and be a part of the 2011 Spring Classic.
